Relax Gaming review: the studio side of a dual business

Relax Gaming as a game studio: the Money Train series, Dream Drop jackpots, Temple Tumble, and how its partner programmes bring other studios' games to market.

Relax Gaming (studio)

relax-gaming.com

8.4/10

Verdict. A studio best known for the Money Train series and its Dream Drop jackpots, which also publishes partner studios; strong on a few franchises, thinner on breadth than the large multi-vertical studios.

Strengths

  • The Money Train series, one of the most followed sticky-feature franchises
  • Dream Drop, an in-house progressive jackpot network that operators can plug into
  • Publishes partner studios through its Powered By and Silver Bullet programmes
  • Long track record, active since 2010

Weak points

  • Own-studio output is smaller than the large multi-vertical suppliers
  • Much of the attention concentrates on one franchise
  • Studio games and partner games can blur together in operator lobbies

Relax Gaming runs two businesses under one name. One publishes games from partner studios; the other designs its own. This review looks only at the second, the studio that gave the market the Money Train series and the Dream Drop jackpots.

Money Train and the sticky bonus

Money Train 2 turned a western theme and a respin bonus into one of the most discussed slot features of its time. Collector, payer and sniper symbols stick on the grid and interact on every respin, and players learn to read the board rather than just watch it. Money Train 3 and 4 added symbols and layers to the same idea. The series is the studio’s calling card, which is both its strength and a sign of how much attention it absorbs.

Dream Drop

Dream Drop is Relax’s own progressive jackpot network: a wheel that can trigger on any spin of participating titles and award one of several prize levels. For an operator it is a way to put a jackpot row in the lobby without building a jackpot system.

Beyond the train

Temple Tumble Megaways, Dead Man’s Trail and Snake Arena show range, from tumbling ways games to more unusual grid designs. Even so, the studio’s own release count is modest next to suppliers that publish several titles a month.

The partner side, briefly

Through Powered By Relax and Silver Bullet, the company distributes games from smaller studios. That makes Relax a useful one-stop source for operators, but it also means a “Relax” row in a lobby may mix in-house titles with partner games. Operators who want only the studio’s own work should check the studio field in the game list. The aggregation business has its own review, Relax Gaming (Silver Bullet aggregation), scored 6.4 on the software grid, which credits only published game counts, wallet details and currencies, none of which Relax lists for its partner programmes.

Score

8.4/10. Strong franchises and a jackpot network; points lost on own-catalogue depth.
